Participation of the Albanian diaspora in the May 11 elections is being led by emigrants in Italy, while Greece has surprisingly shown a very low turnout so far, despite a high number of registered voters.

Out of 91,216 Albanians residing in Italy who registered to vote from abroad, 40,471 had already submitted their ballots to Albania by Wednesday morning.

In contrast, only 8,487 emigrants from Greece have returned their envelopes, even though more than 68,000 had registered in the State Election Register (PER).

Germany and the United States follow Italy in turnout, accounting for 5.4% and 3.6% of returned envelopes, respectively.

The electoral districts that have received the most diaspora ballots as of Wednesday morning are Tirana, Durrës, Fier, Elbasan, and Korça.

In total, over 88,000 Albanian emigrants have voted in the May 11 elections so far, and their envelopes have reached the Central Election Commission (CEC).
