Today marks the National Day of the Egyptian Minority in Albania.
Human rights activist Ervis Cota said in an interview on Good Morning that the community faces countless problems on a daily basis.
According to him, the main factor remains discrimination.
“I have many contacts with activists and the Egyptian community in various cities and I’ve detected numerous problems. Despite all efforts, we see problems in sheltering, employment, integrating youth, and inclusion in public institutions”, he said.
“Discrimination is one of the main factors that has influenced and contributes in fading the identity of this minority in Albania”, he said.
Whereas, a representative from the Egyptian community in Pogradec says the opposite. According to him, this minority does not feel discriminated against in their city.
“We haven’t really felt discriminated in Pogradec. This is a good thing for us”, said Donald Laze.
The Egyptian community in Pogradec is estimated at around 2,500-3,000 people, said Laze, adding that all of them are fully integrated into the society.
