Dr. Albert Troci said on Euronews Albania’s ‘Morning’ show that the first patient confirmed to have contracted the Omicron variant in his clinic in Italy, hasn’t exhibited any serious symptoms, and that he had been fully vaccinated.

Troci continued by stating that the heavy viral presence in this first patient is what urged doctors to conduct further tests and a specialized analysis that is what ultimately made it possible for them to identify the new COVID variant.

‘Fortunately, the patient and his family aren’t showing any serious clinical symptoms because he is a fully vaccinated patient,” – said Dr. Troci, underlining that the virus has much higher transmissibility and can be spread around much faster than the Delta variant.

“We can run a normal test and tests specifically for variants or a VST (Variant-Specific Test). Sequencing is a complicated and expensive process and can’t be conducted for each [COVID] case,” – explained Troci, adding that we are very able to fight the new variant through vaccines as well as therapies.

The doctor also noted that the current measures are substantial but will need to be implemented with precision.
