University professor and communication expert Ervin Goci said during an interview for Euronews Albania that the Democratic Party needs to go through a total makeover.
From his perspective the ongoing internal conflict is a “legal problem”, adding that it is “a clash between the massive willpower and the pyramidal shape in which the party was built upon”.
“This type of crisis is connected with the way this party has been built. Those standing at the top do whatever they like by ignoring the base. Internal elections are rejected at a time when elections can even be held every 13 days, although they were held in July. Elections should take place every time there’s a crisis”, says Goci.
He also adds that from a legal perspective, although Basha is the leader of the party, he was not certified by a court after his reelection, suggesting that now is the right time to reflect on what legal basis do Albanian parties operate.
“Basha says that he has a majority, but why doesn’t he go to elections then? He definitely doesn’t have the majority, as if he did he would enter the race just to prove everybody else wrong. This is a grave violation of democracy”, asserted the communication expert.
“The real crisis in the DP is that it needs to tear down all its bureaucratic walls and undergo total reformation. It needs to open up and allow a public debate while inviting people to share their ideas and contributions. If it doesn’t do that, it will cement the power hold even further and the opposition will suffer even more”, he concluded.
