Democrats led by the current DP chair Lulzim Basha, revealed their nominee for Shkoder’s new mayor in the upcoming local by-elections set to take place on March 6.
The candidate nominated by DP was Xhemal Bushati. His candidature was announced earlier today, during a presentation in Shkoder.
Today’s meeting was organized by several high-ranking district leaders in Shkoder, as well as a number of Democratic MPs from this district.
In his opening remarks, Bushati said that his main goal will be to unite Democrats in the best interest of Shkoder’s residents.
The presentation was directed by DP’s district leader in Shkoder, Enkelejd Alibeaj, who said that in this mayoral race, he sees himself as DP’s representative, who has to run against the Socialist Party (SP) and the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI), making no mention of Berisha’s DP faction known as the Commission of Refoundation.
Bushati has previously directed Shkoder’s municipal council. In the race for Shkodra’s municipality, he will go up against SP’s nominee Majlinda Angoni and Bard Spahia – the candidate that will represent the ‘Home of Freedom’ coalition, which is made up of Berisha’s DP faction, SMI, and other smaller parties.
