The National Assembly of the Democratic Party convened today at the Palace of Congress adopted a resolution proposed by the National Council.
The resolution approved on December 12 and adopted today deems the assembly called by former PM Sali Berisha as “unlawful”.
As a consequence, the decisions adopted at Berisha’s assembly become null and have no political or legal repercussions for the Democratic Party.
In the resolution, it says that the “Berisha movement” comes as an effort to delegitimize the institutions of the Democratic from being “the most pro-Western force in the country”, while aiming to protect Berisha’s personal interests only.
“The Democratic Party will fend off any movements that run counter to its determined identity, the interests of Democrats and the Albanian people, and the vital strategic ties that the Albanian nation has with the United States”, a statement from the resolution read.
