The leader of the Democratic Party will convene the National Council, sticking to what he declared in the National Assembly held on December 18.
Earlier in the day, the Refoundation Commission held a meeting at DP’s headquarters threatening Basha to step down by January 5, or else he risks facing the force of the membership “turn into political bailiffs”.
‘The refusal of a decision made by the National Assembly, which is the highest statutory body of the Democratic Party in Albania, as well as the refusal of the will expressed by 43.385 members of DP, who ratified the decision for his dismissal, will force the membership to turn into political bailiffs…” read the letter of the Refoundation Committee.
In addition, the Refoundation Commission sent a message to Council members calling on them to boycott the meeting with Basha.
“The Commission calls on all National Council members to distance themselves the PD hostage-taking situation, and respect the will of the majority that discharged the leader and not listed to MP Basha who wants to sack the majority”, the message read.
On December 11, over 4,000 delegates attended the National Assembly called by Sali Berisha where they voted to dismiss Lulzim Basha from his function as DP chair.
On December 18, during a long referendum also called by Berisha, it was reported that a total of 43.879 Democrats voted for Basha’s dismissal. That same day, Lulzim Basha held another parallel Assembly, which he has deemed to be the only Legitimate Assembly.
