The National Assembly of the Democratic Party convened twice in a week, something that has never occurred before.

Last week on this day, Sali Berisha gathered enough signatures to convene the Assembly, which according to a tally kept by its secretariat brought 4,934 delegates at the premises of Air Albania stadium.

4,446 delegates voted in favor to discharge Lulzim Basha from the party’s leadership.

Today, the head of the National Assembly Commission, Jemin Gjana, reported an attendance of 5,004 delegates.

The results of the secret ballot are yet to be announced, but Gjana assured transparency and reveal the names of the delegates that showed up today.

According to the statute, the National Assembly is the highest decision-making organ of the Democratic Party and is composed of 7,646 delegates, including the members of the National Council, presidency, branch members, etc.

The assembly convenes every four years per rule, but it can also be brought together if one-fourth of delegates sign for it.

The main competencies of the assembly are to ratify the statute and eventual amends, as well as to adopt new programs, elect members to the National Council as well as discharge the leader in case of a motion of no-confidence.

In other words, the votes of 3,824 delegates would have been enough to discharge Basha.

The participation figures reported in the two Assemblies convened by Berisha and Basha exceed the total number of delegates.

The only explanation is that a considerable number of delegates have attended both Assemblies.
