A joint operation between SPAK and Finnish authorities has dismantled a drug trafficking ring accused of smuggling narcotics from Spain and the Netherlands to Finland. The group, allegedly led by Albanian nationals, has been under investigation since June 2023.

In a press conference on Tuesday, SPAK prosecutor Alfred Shehu revealed that 11 arrest warrants were issued by the court, resulting in the arrest of 9 individuals, while 2 remain at large.

The case, initially opened in Finland, led to the creation of a joint investigative team between Albanian and Finnish authorities in late November 2023. The investigation included covert surveillance and wiretaps, through which additional drug trafficking activities in Finland were uncovered throughout 2024.

In May 2025, SPAK requested pre-trial detention for the suspects, a request granted on June 2 by the Special Court. The coordinated police action was carried out on June 3, with the involvement of Albanian Police, BKH agents, and Finnish law enforcement.

During the operation, authorities seized 8 vehicles, mobile phones, and key documents, including material in Finnish tied to the group’s criminal activity.

The case is a result of continued efforts by SPAK and its international partners to dismantle Albanian-led organized crime groups engaged in transnational drug trafficking.
