‘The progress achieved over these past 5 years has been so substantial that it made it possible for us to say yes”. These were the declarations of the prime minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte during a joint press conference with PM Edi Rama while commenting on our negotiations with the EU.

In addition, he underlined that the elections set to take place in Bulgaria this Sunday should wrap up successfully in order to get started with both Intergovernmental Conferences.

“It’s fair to say that in order to officially commence the first Intergovernmental Conference it is crucial to resolve Bulgaria’s veto. I hope we can do this. This Sunday, [Bulgaria] will be holding their elections. I will be visiting North Macedonia after. You’ve made so much progress in so many sectors and this is the reason why we should officially start these negotiations,” – said Rutte.

Meanwhile, PM Rama stated that the Netherlands support the European integration of Albania as well as the first IGC.

“We have a very positive working relationship. The impact of the Netherlands on Albania gets better by the year. We have spoken with the prime minister regarding our cooperation in the field of security and our fight against organized crime. The progress we have been able to make through this cooperation will keep growing as a result of the capacities of this collaboration,” – said Rama.

According to Rama, we are at a point where it is crucial that we resolve the standstill caused by Bulgaria’s veto.

“I thank my friend Mark, for his personal contribution in communicating with the Bulgarian side, as well as everyone that is making an effort to push Bulgaria towards a solution before the European Council is set to convene in December,” – said Rama.
