Next year, health will take up a considerable chunk of the state budget, more specifically €630 million. A portion of this fund will go to covering four active concessionary contracts, including the basic health check-up, as payments froze during the lockdown, only to be reopened this February.
“We will continue to fund the basic health check-up for the age group 35-70, which gives the opportunity to over 475,000 citizens to profit from this service every year”.
But MP Erion Brace has requested to go over these contracts, as public money is being misused, claiming that not all services are being offered by the private company contracted.
“It is time to review the efficiency of the concessionaries we have in the health sector. There is no reason to pay for a set that has 40 devices, and only using 2 of them”, Braçe said.
In total, there are four concessionary contracts in the health sector, of which three were signed by former health minister Ilir Beqaj. Private companies that provide the service will cash in €39 million from the state budget next year.
