The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic and PM Edi Rama held a joint press conference this Monday after an official meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tirana.

Asked from Euronews Albania about the amount given by the EU for the post-earthquake reconstruction process, Lenarcic emphasized that this is not directly connected with his mandate, but added that the bloc issued a €75 million fund for the reconstruction of kindergartens and schools.

“In total, €75 million were given by the EU for the reconstruction of schools, kindergartens and all 11 municipalities affected by the quake were beneficiaries of this fund”, Commissioner Lenarcic said.

“Tomorrow in the morning I will visit some of the sites funded by the reconstruction fund granted by the EU. I will visit a kindergarten in Durres built with EU funds”, he added.

The EU Commissioner noted that the bloc also gave another €40 million to restore cultural sites in line with the EU cultural program.

According to him, a majority of these projects are already finished and the rest are due by the end of this year.
