After spending the winter holidays with their close families, emigrants who live and work in Greece, have started to go back to their usual lives, albeit their disappointment due to surging prices back home is loud and clear.

At the border crossing in Kapshtica, despite the high influx, no long queues were reported.

Meanwhile, a common feeling of frustration is present amongst all and the common denominator is one – high priced goods and services back home left a bitter taste during their short stay in Albania.

“We stayed for about 7 days. Prices were very high, unlike any other year. I’ve never seen something like it before,” – said an emigrant while waiting to cross the border.

“Very expensive, especially when you compare it to previous years. Prices in Greece and Albania are now the same,” – said another.

For others, the traffic they had to endure during their stay was another low point during their vacation.

However, at least this time around, emigrants aren’t facing long excruciating queues at the border.

The Kapshtica checkpoint is up, as usual, offering 3 different clerk stations when exiting and 2 when entering Albania.

From January 1-3, a total of 7.169 citizens left Albania crossing the border to Greece and another 5.478 crossed the border to North Macedonia. In total, 12.647 citizens left the country during this period.
