56 organizations demand the withdrawal of the draft law that violates Protected Areas. Environmental protection organizations ask the Government and the Assembly to withdraw from the plan to change the law on Protected Areas, seeing these changes as a real risk for the destruction of nature. In Vlora, among the changes, the review of the border of the Vjosë-Nartë protected area has been requested.

According to experts, the decisions to fragment the protected areas pave the way for unsustainable developments in the interior or in their vicinity, increase the negative impacts on the central areas of the protected areas, impoverish habitats and species, as well as affect the biological diversity of these areas and all of Albania.

“All the associations are worried because there will be interventions affecting the protected areas. The beneficiary is not the community, the beneficiaries are individual individuals. Every type of construction is open, in addition to the two resorts, other interventions are foreseen within the protected area. No investment is in the interest of the people, on the contrary, they destroy, so their goal is to give the best wealth of our nation to foreigners or special individuals,” said Niko Dumani, environmentalist.

While the alarm has been raised by many environmentalists, some of them think differently, stating that the changes in the map of these areas will help in economic and social development, giving the country the right balance.

“The point is to find the balance between the socio-economic development of the country, between the needs of the community and the preservation of nature. There is a little exaggeration on this issue, they have frustrated the community a lot, but the community of Vlora is very clear because it knows the good and its evils.” – said Simo Ribaj, environmentalist.

The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, announced on January 26 that the changes will give some areas a new status, while the Vjosa river will be declared a “Natural Park”. While Vjosa will be declared a “Natural Park”, a significant area of the Narta Lagoon has already passed the construction of the airport.
