The doors of 522 new houses were unlocked on Monday to welcome in families from the town of Laç whose homes were reduced to rubble following the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Albania on 26 November 2019.

The entire block of new houses is a donation from Turkey and is declared to have cost €42 million.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan handed out keys to families affected by the quake.

As a sign of gratitude, the main square of the new block will be named after the Turkish President.

During the ceremony, President Erdogan reiterated the partnership between the two countries.

“Our friendship with Albania, with which we share common historical and civilizational values, our joy, our troubles, and our troubles, will continue forever.”
