U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar referred to the meeting with Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik as “productive”, adding that he was “open to discussing withdrawing all of the legislation that would weaken the central institutions.”

The top US diplomat also held three separate talks with members of the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia.

“The most important thing that we agreed with all of the interlocutors that we met with today is that we all agree that there will be no war and that’s the most important message”, Escobar said. “And that’s not just the message that you are going to hear from all of the leaders that I meet with today, but you are going to hear this from regional leaders as well.

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State also expressed confidence that “Europe will understand in a timely manner” that “Bosnia and Herzegovina must be a part of the European Union”.

“Of course we talked about all these topics, but it is also very important to emphasize that what we need to guarantee is that Bosnia and Herzegovina stays united, sovereign, and with preserved territorial integrity”.

Recently, Bosnia’s strongman threatened to withdraw Republika Srpska from state institutions, such as tax authorities, medicinal agencies, and the army.
