With the official launch of the electoral campaign, the head of the EU delegation to Albania, Luigi Soreca, as well as the representatives from the missions of EU member states addressed political parties through a joint declaration.

In their statement, they urge political subjects to focus the debate on their respective political programs.

Recalling the broad interparty consensus that led to the June 5 agreement of the Political Council, representatives of EU member states in the country called to uphold the same spirit during the electoral campaign, based on mutual respect, dialogue and restraint, without the provocative rhetoric or hate language.

“Transparent, inclusive, and free and fair elections, as well as respecting the results, are crucial in guaranteeing the legitimacy of the new Assembly and government. We trust that the respective Albanian institutions and political actors will act in compliance with international standards and decisions of the Central Election Commission”, the statement read.

Furthermore, they also encouraged citizens to exercise their right to vote and abide by all pandemic-related measures.

“The international community is actively monitoring the whole preparatory process and elections through the ODIHR mission, Also, the EU delegation and the embassies of EU member states will visit many ballot centers on election day. We stand firm with Albania in its path towards the acceptance in the EU”, concluded the statement.
