The Euro has strengthened this week, surpassing 100 lek in the foreign exchange market. This rapid appreciation may spark optimism among businesses that have suffered losses in recent years.
After a long period of consistent decline, the Euro has gained more than 2 points in recent days, exceeding 100 lek in the domestic market.
According to the official exchange rate of the Central Bank, the Euro traded at 100.06 lek midweek, marking its highest level since September of last year.
If this appreciation trend continues, it could positively impact several production and export sectors, which have faced significant losses over the past three years.
In January 2024, the Euro reached its highest value of the year at 104.7 lek before declining sharply after May, hitting its lowest point in November at 98.2 lek.
At the end of 2024, the Bank of Albania increased its interventions in the currency market to stabilize the Euro. However, international institutions do not recommend such interventions, arguing that exchange rates should adjust naturally according to market dynamics.
