Former environment minister and Durres MP Lefter Koka was arrested by law enforcement authorities following an order released by SPAK, sources confirmed to Euronews Albania.

SPAK’s indictment was confirmed by the Special Court who sought for a prison sentence on the former senior official.

Euronews Albania has learned that Koka was arrested in his home in Durres around 11:30 AM.

Euronews Albania journalist Eni Ferhati reported that SPAK is expected to release an official statement over the arrest.

The former minister is accused of abuse of office over incinerator affairs.

The file has been a part of SPAK’s investigations for the past two years, with more officials believed to be involved in the affair.

Lefter Koka secured a seat in parliament to represent Durres under the Socialist Party’s banner but renounced shortly after.

He served as environment minister from 2013 to 2017.

US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim, took it on Twitter to commend SPAK and reiterate that no one is above the law.
