BIRN editor-in-chief, Besar Likmeta said on tonight’s ‘NOW’ with Erla Mehilli that only one-tenth of what is being trumpeted as the ‘Incinerators Affair’ is included in the investigation professed earlier today by SPAK, which resulted in the former minister of environment, Lefta Koka’s arrest due to his involvement in the Elbasan incinerator.
“The incinerator in Elbasan only represents one of the contracts, amounting to €26 million euros. We also have the contract of Fier’s [incinerator] that has a cost of €28 million euros and a contract of Tirana’s incinerator that costs €450 million euros, because the period over which the project will be administered by the company is also included, and these are all costs that will ultimately be covered by taxpayers,” – said Likemeta.
According to him, the lack of an actual investigation that includes the incinerators of Fier and Tirana is senseless, because it’s the very same people that are involved in them.
These two other contracts aren’t addressed at all, said Likmeta, adding that the individuals and companies responsible could at this very moment, be hiding the evidence of all the violations they’ve committed, thus escaping incrimination.
