The exhibition and the documentary “Meet a Fisherman” brought to attention the history and traditions of fishing in the waters of Lake Ohrid, one of the most precious assets of the region.
Through authentic fishermen’s testimonies, photos and artifacts, architect Diana Mile presented not only the fishing process, but also the unique types of fish found in the lake.
Diana Mile said: “Fishing is more than a craft for these people; it is a way of life and part of the cultural heritage of the area. We have tried to preserve and reflect every detail of this tradition through the exhibition.”
One of the most special aspects was the portrayal of Pogradec fishermen’s families, who have preserved this tradition from generation to generation.
The painter Anastas Kostandini, a well-known figure who lives in a neighborhood by the lake, also spoke at the exhibition. “This area is the heart of the city, where culture and nature coexist. Half of the residents here are fishermen, and this documentary tells their unusual stories,” he said.
Even the poet Ana Kove, who has found inspiration in the landscape and life near the lake, shared her emotions: “Fishing and the lake are love for the people of Pogradec. They constitute a coexistence that gives soul to our city.”
After the screening of the documentary, attendees enjoyed traditional dishes including fish dishes and local drinks, experiencing even more of the local culture.
