The extension of the mandate of the vetting bodies is highly unlikely before the end of the year, while the two main political forces are set to find common ground in January.

Although Socialists had asserted that the extension would take place before Christmas, they were not able to convince the Democrats.

This is an issue that will take its time,” said Taulant Balla, the head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group.

Asked on the Constitutional Court’s verdict on the local elections Balla said that the judgment must be “implemented”, and that democracy “was on the side of the people”.

Another point where the two largest parties divert is the special commission on the electoral reform, a dispute that will not be resolved this year either.

“This commission will convene in January”, Balla confirmed.

Also, Balla reiterated that the Socialist Party will back away from any individual allegedly involved in corruptive affairs.
