Officers from Tirana’s Police Department headed to the former Chief Prosecutor’s residence, with plans to execute a court issued warrant ordering his arrest, but Adriatik Llalla was nowhere to be found.

Police officers ended up going inside Llalla’s home, where they found out that the former prosecutor has left the country a week ago.

After today’s ruling made by the Special Appeals Court, which decided to uphold the initial verdict made by the trial court to sentence Llalla to 2 years behind bars, SPAK issued the warrant to arrest him – which failed to materialize.

Llalla became the first former high-ranking public official that was part of the justice system to be sent to jail.

In 2018, Llalla was added to the list of non-grata officials that aren’t allowed to enter US soil on grounds of being affiliated with corruptive affairs and abusing their position of power in their home countries.

Based on his investigation records, the reason for his arrest was the suspicion that the former prosecutor failed to declare his wealth on three separate occasions.

Initially, Llalla hid a sum of money amounting to 7 400 US dollars spent in the United Stated, where his wife gave birth to their son. The other episode was related to an unspecified sum of money used in the construction of an unidentified building and the third episode, regarded another unspecified amount of money spent for his daughter’s tuition in Germany.

Several estates and an apartment building have been confiscated from Llalla as well, and are on the process of becoming public state-owned properties.
