Albania has seen a surge in new coronavirus cases in the first days of 2022.
Infection rates in proportion to testing figures is around 15%.
With fewer tests being conducted in the past days, it appears that new infections too have been on the decline.
However, it is clear that infection rates have been on the rise as out of 2,487 citizens tested, 335 returned positive to the virus.
In comparison to December 27, when 168 citizens were diagnosed with the virus after analyzing 2,241 suspected samples.
Albania does not trace contacts of those who tested positive, a common procedure followed in many other countries. Citizens usually get tested only when they start showing symptoms.
Currently, Albania has over 6,600 active infections across the country, with hospitalizations at 110.
According to an official tally kept by the health authorities, 3,222 people have died from COVID-19 from the beginning of the pandemic.
