This morning, family members and friends of Klodian Rasha marched through downtown Tirana, holding photos of the youth who was shot and killed by a police officer exactly one year ago.
Qazim Rashha, the father of the 25-year-old, is asking the state to solve the case, emphasizing the tendency of certain segments, who has been trying to incriminate his son.
“They wanted to declare him a criminal. They should crackdown on whoever placed the gun [at the crime scene], or I will do so myself! I wish that such tragedies never happen to anyone,” – he said.
Klodian Rasha died on December 8, 2020 after being shot by a former police officer, Nevaldo Hajdaraj.
The latter was sentenced to 15 years behind bars, by Tirana’s District Court, but he will only serve 10 years, due to a reduced sentence.
Hajdaraj was immediately arrested after news broke of the murdered youth, who was found outside past police curfew and started running from the cops. After a police chase ensued, resulting in the officer shooting at the 25-year-old at some point and eventually killing him.
Authorities concluded that the murder could have been avoided.
Several protests followed this tragic incident, calling for justice and an end to police brutality.
Former minister of internal affairs, Sander Llesahj presented his resignation and the 25-year-old was declared a martyr and his family assigned a monthly pension.
