Farmers in the cities of Fier and Berat staged a protest this Sunday over the rising prices of chemical fertilizers, agricultural inputs, and fuel.
In a protest organized at the national Berat-Fier road axis, farmers asked the Ministry of Agriculture to reconsider subsidies in this sector while also increasing funding for farmers.
“Fertilizers are getting more and more expensive; oil is 2000 ALL per liter. Do you see these farmers over here? In 2-3 months they’ll be gone to Germany. We are demanding that the government reviews its budget on agriculture or else we will all go bankrupt at once,” – said one of the farmers who came out to protest.
The Farmers United Union has submitted an official request to the Albanian government, where they’re asking for more subsidies, a decrease in oil prices, and a rise in agricultural inputs.
