Finance minister Hekuran Murati said that the decision to ban the mining of cryptocurrencies was the right one considering the ongoing energy crisis.
While presenting the annual report of Kosovo Customs, Murati noted that the measures are necessary in order to avoid a heavier burden on citizens.
“It would be unfair if the state would subsidize some people’s profits on the back of the others. That is why it was necessary to make that decision to temporarily restrict mining”, declared Murati.
This week, the government of Kosovo announced that competent authorities will enforce a ban on crypto mining as it is believed that the devices used to generate cryptocurrencies consume too much electricity.
