Food prices rose by over 2% in 2021

The average annual growth rate on the market basket of consumer goods climbed to 2% from 1.6% recorded in 2020.

INSTAT, Albania’s national statistics institute, announced that the Consumer Price Index hit 103.7 last December. The monthly difference of this index compared to the figures from November reached 0.8%.

According to INSTAT, the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 2.2%. In comparison to last November, the prices in the category “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” rose by 1.9%, followed by the category “Hotels, bars and restaurants” (0.9%).

Vjoldi Danaj, an expert on the economy, said on Good Morning that the Albanian Competition Authority (ACA) must intervene to regulate market prices.

“Albanian consumers are more unprotected compared to other states. The state must act as a regulator of market prices”, he said.
