“The internal debate at the Democratic Party has been tardy”, declared the former leader of the Democratic Party during the 90s Eduard Selami, in an interview for VOA. Selami emphasized that the party can’t be reformed with Berisha.
“My opinion is that the debate came quite late for the DP. Berisha has been the disgrace of that party, who even after being publicly designated, continues with his efforts to hold;d the DP hostage”, said Selami. “Any scenario with Berisha showing as the reformist is impossible. This is a closed chapter, Berisha is the past”.
According to Selami, the current leader of the DP should have launched this debate a long time ago.
“I would have wanted to see Basha start this debate much earlier, but he proved not to be a natural leader of the Democratic Party, but somebody Berisha chose for his bad days”, said Selami.
The former DP leader suggested that Lulzim Basha will manage to survive following the clash with Sali Berisha.
“I think he might survive because there the whole party is organized around one man. It’s like those fortresses, and Saliu has placed him there. But this is not the core issue and this is not what we should expect from the Democratic Party as the main political force. The Democratic Party should not simply see how to detach from Berisha, that is already over”, said Selami.
DP’s former leader Sali Berisha and his supporters have called to convene the National Assembly in December, something that has been rejected by the actual leader Lulzim Basha, and instead chose to hold the Assembly on 18 December.
