Former minister Lefter Koka and his defense team have deposited a request at the Special Appeals Court for release on parole and being put on house arrest instead of prison.

In his appeal, the former minister who was arrested for the incinerators affair in Elbasan, has argued that he is a person with integrity and that he has never run away from the law, and would actually be willing to collaborate.

Last week, the Special Court ruled to have the ex-minister of environment, Lefter Koka will have to wait for his verdict in jail.

Koka’s lawyer, Fatmir Braka declared that his client told the Judges that he is innocent and that he used to hold no criminal liability for the implementations of procedures at the Elbasan incinerator during his time as minister.

The ex-minister is being accused of abusing his power, corruption and money laundering.

The former high-ranking official is also being accused of having favored a company in a concession race for the construction project of the Elbasan incinerator.
