Former president of Albania Bujar Nishani has passed away.

A few days ago, he had gone to Germany in order to find treatment for a serious lung disease he had been suffering from and which got worse due to COVID-19.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to survive.

Initially, Nishani received medical help at Tirana’s Shefqet Ndroqi hospital but after his health started to decline, he was sent to Germany.

Nishani was 56 years old and he served as President of the Republic from July 2012- July 2017.

Earlier he had held various important functions in government like minister of interior and minister of justice.
