The French ambassador in Kosovo, Olivier Guerot, has called on Kosovo and Serbia to accept the compromise proposal on the issue of illegal Serbian license plates, formulated by the European Union.

Through a post on Twitter, the French ambassador said that the call applies especially to Kosovo.

“France fully supports the mediation of the European Union, which should enable progress towards a legally binding agreement between Kosovo and Serbia and for both countries to move towards the European perspective”.

His statement comes a day after the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, failed to reach an agreement on the license plate issue, in an emergency meeting called by the European Union in Brussels.

A few hours later, at the request of the United States, Kurti postponed for 48 hours the implementation of the second phase of the decision on the re-registration of cars with illegal Serbian license plates in RKS – Republic of Kosovo.
