France has requested the immediate suspension of the decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo to cease circulation of the Serbian dinar.

Through an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, France says that it is concerned about the decision of the Central Bank in Kosovo, which only allows the euro for cash use.

It is also said that this decision was taken hastily and in an uncoordinated manner and will have consequences in the daily life of the Serbian community in Kosovo, which is largely dependent on payments in Serbian dinars.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France reaction:

France is concerned by the decision issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo that limits all cash transactions in the country except euros, starting from February 1, 2024.

This order, which was decided in haste, will affect the daily life of the Serbian community in Kosovo, which is highly dependent on payments from Serbia in Serbian dinars.

Given the lack of alternative solutions at this time, France requests the immediate suspension of this measure to allow for a sufficient transition period. We call on the Kosovar authorities to find a solution through negotiations within the dialogue facilitated by the EU.
