Serbia needs to join other countries in sanctioning Russia as it would help the country advance its European integration.

This is what the German Ambassador in Belgrade Thomas Schieb told local media N1.

According to Schieb, Western sanctions do not target the Russian people but serve as an instrument to preserve peace.

“Sanctions against Russia are not aimed at the Russian people but serve as an instrument to defend peace, democracy, and freedom, the values upon the EU are based upon, and for that reason, countries like Serbia need to join these measures, and that would help Serbia advance in the European integration process”, said the German Ambassador.

In June 23, leaders of the Western Balkans met with EU leaders in Brussels.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reiterated during the meeting that he has received a lot of pressure to sanction Russia.
