Foreign minister Donika Gervalla called on the European Union to abide by its commitments to making Kosovo a member state soon.

Gervalla attended the EU Meets the Balkans Forum, where politicians and experts spoke about regional cooperation and integration in the EU.

She said that people in Kosovo strongly support EU integration and that her country is doing all it can to fulfill accession criteria.

Gervalla also urged the bloc to move forward in lifting the visa regime for the citizens of Kosovo but added that the ultimate objective is joining the EU.

“France went through elections and we hope that there will be some progress”, she added.

Gervalla said she is convinced that the EU does not need to witness war in order to comprehend how important is enlargement and integration for the rest of Europe.

“The messages being conveyed to the Western Balkans must be very clear”, said Kosovo’s diplomacy chief.

During her stay in Sofia, Gervalla also met EU Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and her Bulgarian counterpart Teodora Genchovska.
