The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, arrived in Tirana today to attend the EU-Western Balkan Summit.

She was received by Prime Minister Edi Rama, after which, she gave a short statement to the press.

Meloni said that EU leaders have a great responsibility for the countries of the Western Balkans, adding that it is important to strengthen the procedure for the membership of these countries in the EU.

“We have a great responsibility for the countries of the Western Balkans, especially after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. It is very important to strengthen the procedure for the accession of these countries to the EU and there are many issues on which we need to work together on the economy, cyber security as well as other issues, for which you are aware that Italy is fully committed.

We will try to do our best for the many issues we have at our hands today, for roaming and many other issues we are discussing and as you know, you can count on Italy for that. Thank you!” Meloni said.

27 European leaders will be present at this summit, accompanied by their respective delegations.

Meanwhile, in addition to today’s summit, a protest will be held in the capital city, called by the Democratic Party, which will start at 12:00 and is expected to be staged in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, despite numerous calls from the government and the state police that no protestors should be allowed beyond the security perimeter.
