A golden eagle, Albania’s emblematic national symbol has been finally released into the wilderness after it was shot in the area of Skrapar.

The bird was found injured by what appeared to be a gun-inflicted wound circa two months ago and was unable to fly.

After receiving rehabilitative care at the hands of experts at the Divjaka National Park, a GPS was implanted on its back to learn more about its daily habits.

Experts explain that this will provide a clear view of how the golden eagle lives, feeds itself, and the areas which it considers to be its home, as well as whether it travels beyond the country’s borders.

In the past couple of years, experts have raised the alarm for the illegal hunting of these wild birds leading the species to the brink of endangerment.
