Greece will speed up the procedures for obtaining a residence permit, to open the way for a large number of migrants to enter the labor market.

Ministry of Migration and Asylum is evaluating the possibilities to adjust the legal framework, and then pass the proposal to the Assembly.

Under the current law, migrants must wait up to three years to renew their residence permits, and their large influx has caused the system to collapse.

Albanian migrants will be the big beneficiaries of the new changes, as they make up about 60 percent of all legal arrivals, followed by Georgians and Pakistanis.

At the migration directorates in Attica so far, it is estimated that around 200,000 residence permit applications are pending.

In addition to legal migration reform, Greece is also working on new bilateral agreements with at least six countries, such as Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, India, Vietnam and the Philippines, to receive workers from these countries.
