Dadias is one of the areas most affected by the fires in Alexandroupoli prefecture.

Here, most of the residents have left because of the fear of fire, while they express surprise that firefighters from Albania have come to help the Greek state in this difficult situation.

The few residents who have remained in the Greek village, most of the time pray with their eyes on the cross of the church.

The only hope for them remains in God, as the fires have grown in size in recent days, approaching them as well.

Euronews Albania asked them how they felt as different countries have come to their aid, one of them being Albania.

“For 70 years there have been no fires in this forest, the care was great, but now the lungs of the village are no more. Thank you for coming, but you have nothing to do, the situation here has gotten out of control”, says Jorgos Babakis, a resident.

“Many people from different countries have come to help Greece at this time, I see Albanian trucks and I am surprised because our relationship at this time is not very good, but it is good for Albania and Greece to stay together. I hope they will cooperate and the relationship will be better in the future”, said another.

“No one is sure what’s going on here yet, but something is going on here, that’s for sure. It is a good action from Albania because we are close to you, helping in these moments is something unique, if something happens in Albania, I think that Greece should also help Albania”, says a young girl.

At the end of the interview, she also makes the two-headed eagle, as a sign of thanks to the Albanians who are helping.

49 firefighters from Albania and the military force are working in the area of Alexandroupoli to control the flames, even though the situation has reached great proportions and their total extinguishment takes time.
