Economy expert, Selami Xhepa, declared that high-income individuals could be taxed at 28%.

During an interview for Euronews Albania, the expert said that a reclassification of the different categories of employment is also expected to take place, which will include the self-employed.

“A very high tax rate for individuals who have a high net worth is expected to be as much as 28%. We’re also expected to see a reclassification of the different categories of employees, which will include the self-employed,” – said Xhepa.

In addition, Xhepa called the rapid changes in our taxation laws, a ‘gangrene of the Albanian political system’.

The expert also said that this practice is very damaging not only for businesses but for citizens as well.

“This is Albania’s eternal gangrene. The laws which have changed the most in Albania through the years, have been tax laws. This is the worst, ugliest, and most damaging practice to businesses as well as regular citizens. Tax laws in Albania are the gangrene of our country’s political system,” – he said.

According to the expert, our government should reconsider the taxation burden on certain social groups, based on the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund.
