The average monthly expenditure for an Albanian household is 91,700 lek, marking an increase of around 4% compared to last year.
A more detailed analysis of how this money is spent was conducted by the research center ALTAX, which states that 40% of the amount goes toward food and non-alcoholic beverages. In monetary terms, that’s 36,400 lek spent in markets and grocery stores.
Housing expenses, including water and electricity bills, account for 10% of the total, or 8,900 lek.
Public transport costs average 6,800 lek per family, representing 7% of the budget, while the remaining 43% is spent on education, healthcare, entertainment, clothing, and personal care.
Analyzing this breakdown leads to the conclusion that low-income families — for example, those living on two minimum wages or social assistance — face significant difficulties in covering their living costs.
This situation highlights the need for additional support, including social policies, access to vocational training, and the promotion of employment opportunities.
