Albania took in 2,400 Afghans since August 27.

Euronews Albania learned that only 300 were resettled to the US and Canada. The rest are still in Shengjin and Durres waiting to get their travel visas.

For Euronews Albania, they recount how difficult it was to leave their home behind, but the hospitality they say to have found here made their stay much easier.

“I like everything about Albania, its beauties, culture, the people. It’s a wonderful country. Fleeing our country was the hardest thing to do”, says Mara Talash.

“They don’t treat us as outsiders. I was at the barber yesterday. When I was about to pay him 500 Lek, he said don’t worry, it’s free for you”, added Talash.

But for many who left their loved ones behind to flee the Taliban regime, the pain is still strong.

“I think about them every day. I’m so sad for them. They are living with people that don’t respect their rights. To be honest, they’re suffering. They’re just waiting for me to find an opportunity and take them out of Afghanistan”, said Zafar Jaamy.

The government declared that the temporary sheltering of Afghans in Albania won’t last longer than a year.
