One of the protesters told Euronews Albania that the Rama government has increased taxes, is robbing their properties, and that there is no hope left in this country.
The protester also revealed that he works in a public institution, is not a member of any party, and came out to protest simply as a citizen.
“We come from Elbasan. I protest a lot and for many reasons. I am a salaryman and I work in a government job. Poverty is extreme, our property is being taken from us, taxes are high. We do not have any kind of service. We were threatened in the elections. All of my family have left as immigrants. Why should we stay in Albania? We don’t have the income to cope with all of these problems”, said one of the protesters.
“I am not afraid of either the left or the right, I came out as a citizen today for my rights, with my full will. I am not a member of any party”, he said further.
This Saturday, at 16:00, a national opposition protest began in front of the Prime Minister’s Office. In order to keep things under control, about 1.000 police officers will be on standby, while some road axes have been closed from 15:00 onwards.
The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, and other democratic functionaries have not ruled out any scenarios for today’s protest.
