Brandon Russomanno, an Italian tech-engineer residing in California, has been living in Vlora for six months.

After hearing from his friends in Italy about a sunny city on the other side of the Ionian Sea, he decided to leave California and make Vlora his new hometown.

The 30-year old earth lover chose the village of Beshisht, some kilometers away from Vlora, where he rented some land, eyeing to even purchase in the near future.

“I am from California, US. I learned about Albania when I was in Italy, my friends told me about it. I’ve been here for 8 months. It’s a beautiful place and I see a lot of opportunities. It has California’s climate, with hot summers and plenty of olive trees”, he says.

While discussing fiscal facilities that foreigners have in Albania, Brandon also touched upon the widespread phenomenon of Albanian young people fleeing their country.

According to him, they should invest and work in their country as it offers great opportunities.

“At first I came as a visitor, but I saw a lot of space for investments. So I thought why not produce here? So when I came here I asked my friends who wants to sell their land, and where’s the good food at and they introduced me to Spiro. I want to try and grow organic food like corn, watermelon, tomatoes and then export it”, explains Brandon.

For Spiro Balliu, a farmer from Beshisht, cooperating with a foreigner is a great chance, especially in times of hardships triggered by inflated prices and state negligence.

But Brandon isn’t the only foreigner investing in Beshisht. Two friends of his, Ana from Australia and Teo from The Netherlands, have already bought some property in the village.

They started to grow organic vegetables for self-consumption, but now have some major business projects in their mind.
