Kosovo’s justice minister Albulena Haxhiu declared that the government of Prime Minister Albin Kurti intends to pursue the vetting process, despite opposing voices among internationals. Also, she says experts are working on the genocide lawsuit against Serbia.
The Government of Kosovo intends to push through the vetting process in the justice system, despite the lack of support from the European Union.
“It is a matter of urgency. It is imperative to work in that direction and we will engage every day regardless of concerns they have. Of course that I am looking forward to address the concerns, be that with the office of the EU or other high-level representatives we me. There is a general agreement to sit and discuss about the steps we would need to follow, but there is no resistance or opposition for the process”, she said.
As the Chief State Prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo Aleksander Lumezi is near the end of his term in office, minister Haxhiu says that his successor must be someone that is not influenced from external factors.
In addition, she asserted that the Prime Minister’s Office is looking for experts that will help compile the lawsuit against Serbia.
“It is one of the most sensitive processes and we cannot discuss about that as we do with matters of corruption, organized crime, or the vetting process in the justice system” said Haxhiu.
Kosovo’s ruling Vetevendosje vowed to file a lawsuit against Serbia and genocide committed against Kosovar Albanians.
