The Ambassador of the United States to Tirana, Yuri Kim, says the diversification of energy can no longer wait due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to Kim, the United States will cooperate closely with Albanian on regional projects related to the diversification of energy.

In light of a conflict that has lasted over two months now, Kim sees it as necessary to build more gas pipelines.

“We have all seen that Russia’s unjustified invasion of Ukraine has made it clear that energy diversification cannot wait. Last night we even saw how Russia threatened and turned off the gas supply to Poland and Bulgaria. We need to have more pipelines. The United States and Europe are facing a new reality with the military, diplomatic and economic challenges”, said the US ambassador.

Her statement came during a meeting held on Wednesday with a group of companies from the US and EU energy sector, who said they are willing to invest in Albania.

Attending the meeting were also PM Edi Rama and infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku.
