Police tried to obstruct a protest in the city of Korce, which was staged this morning by students trying to make a statement regarding the rising prices of oil and other products.

Hundreds of students boycotted classes at the University Fan S. Noli, and headed to the Cathedral – many of them, holding signs and chanting against the government’s refusal to react.

The rising price of oil and public transit are amongst the main reasons that prompted today’s student protest, seeing that many of them have to use intercity busses to attend classes.

For 2 days now, mass protests are being staged all over the country, including in Tirana, Durres and Korce.

Farmers in the smaller cities of Devoll and Myzeqe also gathered this Thursday to protest the rising price of fertilizers that directly impacts their daily activities.

Protests will continue through the week.

Cab drivers have announced another protest set to take place later today at 11:00 a.m. before the PM’s Office in Tirana.

Oil has been going up recently but the rising price of basic food products has spread concerns amongst citizens that fear they won’t be able to make ends meet.

The government has yet to come out with a specific plan in regards to the price crisis. PM Rama came out earlier this week and called on citizens to start saving and lowering their energy consumption as we could most probably be facing an energy and oil shortage in the upcoming weeks and months.
