The bilateral meeting between the governments of Kosovo and North Macedonia held in Skopje on Thursday concluded with eleven agreements.

Infrastructure, economy, tourism, innovation, culture, and the diaspora were some of the main topics discussed, including a major highway projecting connecting Tetova with Prizren.

But the topic that everybody had their eyes on was the Open Balkan initiative. Prime minister Albin Kurti said that Kosovo has a Western orientation, adding that it doesn’t imply that it will wane ties with North Macedonia.

“We’re oriented toward the future, and to us, the future is the European Union, so the EU is our fate, while Europe our continent. Therefore. We, therefore, endorse all regional initiatives coming from the EU”, said Kurti.

For Zoran Zaev, the different approaches will not weaken bilateral ties.

“Regarding the Open Balkans, we have different opinions on it, but this will not impede us from having excellent cooperation. To me, this first government meeting is truly historic. I will only say that Ko9sovo is an independent and sovereign state and it has its own stance, and we will respect that”, said Zaev.

The two heads of the executive also discussed deepening economic cooperation as well as boosting trade.

The trade exchange value between the two countries is estimated at $305 million for 2020, an amount set to rise to over $400 million this year.
