The Minister of Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, announced that on Sunday Kosovo offered temporary protection to 68 Afghans.
Sveçla has said through a post on Facebook that their accommodation is a continuation of the commitment of the Government of Kosovo to the crisis in Afghanistan, to protect individuals at risk from internal conflicts.
At the Government meeting, held on September 11, the decision to provide temporary protection to 15 Afghans and their families was approved.
This is not the first time that Kosovo shelters Afghans in its territory.
In the summer of 2021, when the Taliban have returned to power in Afghanistan, and international forces have withdrawn, Kosovo accepted the request of the United States for the temporary admission of about 1,900 Afghans.
They were supposed to stay in Kosovo until they went through the verification process to move to the USA, or some other western country.
The USA reached similar agreements with several other countries, including Albania.
