The Special Court of Hague has issued a press release for the media, giving details about the arrest of Sali Mustafa, Head of the Kosovo Special Forces Intelligence and former Commander of the KLA for the Llapi Area.

According to the Special Prosecution Office, Mustafa has been transported to Hague after his arrest and is being kept at the pre-detention area.

The accusations are about arbitrary detentions, cruel treatment, and torture against at least six persons in the period between April 1st and April 19th, 1999.

This is the first arrest that the Kosovo Special Prosecution has conducted in Kosovo with the help of the EULEX mission.

Teki Bokshi, a lawyer licensed from the Specialized Chambers of the Special Court said that this was an unexpected development and that there could be other arrests.

“The arrest of Sali Mustafa was unexpected since he wasn’t well-known by media outlets. We were notified about his functions before and after the Kosovo war”, said his lawyer.

Mr.Bokshi declared that we can’t rule out the possibility of seeing the arrest of President Hashim Thaci or of the PDK leader, Kadri Veseli, in case the charges against them are confirmed, since Kosovo has given this competence to the Special Court.

“In theory it is possible, and practically, the Prosecution is reviewing the case. The fact that charges were raised may also lead to this path”, he said.

As regards the publication of these cases, the lawyer said that someone is trying to damage the investigation. He excluded the possibility that the documents may have been shared by the Specialized Chamber of the Court itself.
